Tami Kress, DPT, CCRP
Doctor of Physical Therapy
Certified Canine Rehab Practioner
Tami is a licensed Physical Therapist who completed her BS degree in Biology from Augustana College in 2001 immediately followed by her Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Northwestern University.
She worked in a variety of well recognized hospital based outpatient care centers including the Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago (now Shirley Ryan Ability Lab) and Northwestern Medicine for 15 years before completing her CCRP training (certified canine rehabilitation practitioner) from the University of Tennessee. She switched exclusively to working with dogs in rehabilitation in 2019 and found her passion.
Tami felt it was important to work with many people in the veterinary field to gain more knowledge and experience. She has collaborated with 3 different rehab facilities in Chicago prior to starting My Pet's PT. She has additionally taken varied courses on dog behavior and body language and regularly consults with a local dog trainer. These have been exceptional tools to help allow for a reduced fear based approach to treatment and tremendous success in gaining trust with her 4 legged patients.
Tami was born in Chicago, and has lived in both the surrounding suburbs and city itself. She has two Shiba Inus, Karma and Raiden. Raiden was a foster through Shiba Inu Rescue Association that clearly had found his home the moment they met. With patience, time, and love he has learned to be more trusting and able to enjoy life to the fullest. As a result, Tami has a soft spot for the more shy or nervous pups.
